Artistic Journey

In the mid-1980s, Marc Liebeskind formed his first quartet. His compositions developed a refined acoustic jazz style, influenced by Brazilian music and contemporary improvisation. Three albums—Uma Chamada Brasileira, Duvida, and Snowmoe—quickly established his reputation as a composer and improviser on the European scene. Critics highlighted the quality of his sound, his sense of melody, and the originality of his musical world.

Beginning in 1997, several extended stays in West Africa—notably in Burkina Faso and Mali—profoundly enriched his musical language. He collaborated with leading musicians such as Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyaté, and Kélétigui Diabaté. This immersion gave rise to several projects blending jazz and Mandinka traditions, notably a collaboration with Ibra Galissa that led to the formation of two groups, Taffetas and Ibra Galissa & Marc Liebeskind 4tet, which have performed in numerous countries and at international festivals.
